Senior Backend Engineer

Company: Ascertain is a healthcare AI startup backed by Northwell (New York's largest health system) and Deerfield. We're a small team automating the painful admin work that clogs up the U.S. healthcare system — things like prior authorizations, discharge planning, and insurance claims. Our goal is simple: give time back to clinicians so they can focus on patient care, not paperwork. We've found early product-market fit and are growing the team thoughtfully. We're NYC-based and hybrid (~3 days/week).

Role: We are seeking a Senior Backend Engineer to join our tight-knit, high-trust team. You will contribute to building our general-purpose automation platform for healthcare operations, focusing on the backend systems that power our AI tools. This includes working on systems that handle document processing, form filling, rejection analysis, and discharge planning automation.

Responsibilities & Skills:
*   Strong proficiency in Python and FastAPI.
*   Infrastructure-savvy with experience in Kubernetes (K8s), Terraform, and Docker.
*   Thoughtful about API design, scalability, and system architecture.
*   Comfortable with open-ended, ambiguous challenges.
