The ideal candidate is a passionate software engineer for whom writing software is a hobby, who enjoys building side projects, and can take a rough idea and turn it into a live app. You should love shipping features end-to-end, value speed and pragmatism (knowing when to go 'quick and dirty' vs. polishing code), and take security and performance very seriously. A generalist mindset, comfort with wearing multiple hats, quick learning ability, and a keen eye for UI/UX are highly desirable. While experience with their tech stack (Ruby on Rails, PostgreSQL, Redis, ClickHouse, Redpanda, JavaScript, Vue.js, Tailwind, Docker) is a plus, the ability to pick up new technologies quickly is more important. You share the vision of software engineers being the artists of our age.

As a Full-Stack Engineer, you will be at the forefront of this mission. Your primary challenge will be to develop, test, and deploy secure, performant, and scalable code in production, often independently or with lightweight collaboration. You will work directly with the CTO, CEO, and designer to deliver end-to-end features—from backend to frontend—potentially within a single day.

Key responsibilities include:
- Crafting high-quality software with exceptional UX, end to end.
- Ensuring frontend performance and SEO are top-notch for fast, delightful user experiences and a polished UI.
- Engaging in pragmatic problem-solving, understanding the balance between rapid prototyping and robust production code.
- Maintaining security and performance across the entire stack, applying fundamental web security principles.
- Collaborating asynchronously, managing your time effectively to ship impactful software.
- Shaping user experiences, optimizing backend performance, and deploying secure, scalable solutions.

Better Stack is looking for engineers who are essentially product engineers/generalists and, if given enough time, could build Better Stack on their own. This role is about taking ownership and creating software that users love.
