Senior Mechanical Engineer
About Charge Robotics: Charge Robotics is a YC-backed startup building robots that build large-scale solar farms. Demand for new solar projects is booming (1/5th of all the solar that exists in the US was installed last year!), but today’s construction companies can’t keep up due to limited labor resources. We thought this was insane, so we started working on robots to directly address this bottleneck and speed up the world’s transition to renewables. We’re a small, fast-moving company which means constant opportunities for learning and growth. You’ll have a large impact on the direction of our company and our product, which will be reflected in significant equity compensation. And you get to play with 🤖 giant robots 🤖. If you are excited to work on interesting technical problems with direct climate impact, you’re going to fit right in.
About The Role: As a Senior Mechanical Engineer at Charge Robotics, you’ll be instrumental in designing, building, testing, and iterating on mechanical systems for solar assembly. You’ll track, investigate, and resolve hardware issues with our robots, ensuring reliability and efficiency. This role requires close collaboration with other engineering teams to integrate mechanical designs with software and electrical systems.
What You’ll Do:
- Design, build, test, and iterate on mechanical systems for solar assembly.
- Track, investigate, and resolve hardware issues with robots.
- Communicate with other engineers to integrate new designs.
- Work with very large mechanisms and robotic components.
- Ensure mechanical systems meet performance and safety standards.
- Collaborate with software and electrical teams on system integration.
- Document designs and test results thoroughly.
Requirements:
- 6+ years of experience in mechanical engineering.
- Proven ability to design and build mechanical systems.
- Experience with industry-standard CAD software (Onshape preferred).
- Knowledge of fabrication processes and when to send designs to external shops.
- Enjoyment of working in a fast-paced startup environment.
- Excellent written communication skills.
- Willingness to relocate to the SF Bay Area.
- Passion for mitigating climate change through engineering.
Nice-to-have:
- Experience with industrial robot arms, end effectors, and automation systems.
- 4-year degree in mechanical engineering or a related field.
- Familiarity with solar energy systems and renewable technologies.
