Senior Software Engineer, Platform

What You’ll Do

• Own and drive platform initiatives (including reliability, observability, performance, security, and cost optimization) across multiple products and services.
• Lead large cross‑functional projects and initiatives that involve a deep understanding of product requirements, technical constraints, and system trade‑offs.
• Shape the next generation of infrastructure solutions, building on Finch’s platform foundations and advancing tools and processes.
• Lead technical design and implementation of platform components, including core services, data pipelines, API layers, and internal tooling.
• Own critical aspects of the platform’s roadmap, prioritizing initiatives that balance short‑term business impact with long‑term platform health.
• Mentor junior engineers and foster a collaborative culture of learning.
• Translate strategic objectives into concrete execution plans, ensuring timely delivery for key initiatives.
• Contribute to cross‑functional communication, aligning engineering, product, and leadership priorities to ensure a cohesive platform strategy.

What You’ll Bring

• 7+ years of backend or infrastructure engineering experience.
• Experience in building data pipelines or distributed systems.
• Ability to scale systems with a focus on high performance, low latency, and reliability.
• Deep knowledge of infrastructure, security, performance, scalability and reliability.
• Experience working with a modern technology stack (e.g., Node.js, PostgreSQL, Redis, etc.).
• Strong aptitude for learning new technologies and quickly mastering them (e.g., Terraform, Kubernetes, CI/CD, advanced observability).
• Ability to communicate complex technical concepts to both technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
• Strong collaboration, communication, and problem‑solving skills.
• Demonstrated autonomy and ability to independently manage complex technical scopes (including project management considerations).

Success Looks Like

• 1+ years experience building or maintaining production services.
• 1+ years experience in a fast‑broadly‑reliable (FBR) environment.
• Experience on a high‑performance (high‑throughput, low‑latency) engineering team.
• Experience on an early‑phase, product‑focused engineering team.
• Experience in a fast‑growing tech startup.
