C++ Software Engineer Real-time Systems AI FPGAs GPUs Staff Engineer

About Freeform: Freeform is revolutionizing metal 3D printing by deploying software-defined, autonomous factories that bring the scalability of software to physical production. Our proprietary technology leverages real-time AI, advanced computing (FPGAs, GPUs), and precise controls to deliver flawless metal parts at unprecedented speeds and costs. Founded by former SpaceX engineers, we are backed by top investors including NVIDIA, Boeing, and Threshold Ventures. We are seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join our software team and contribute to cutting-edge systems that control and optimize our metal printing processes.

Role Overview: As a Senior Software Engineer (C++) at Freeform, you will play a critical role in developing the core software systems that power our autonomous metal 3D printing factories. You will work on high-performance, real-time systems that monitor and control the printing process at a microsecond level, ensuring precision and quality. This role involves designing and implementing complex software components that interface with hardware (FPGAs, GPUs, MCUs) and network systems.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and develop high-performance C++ applications for real-time monitoring and control of metal 3D printing processes.
  • Collaborate with hardware teams to integrate software with FPGAs, GPUs, and other embedded systems.
  • Optimize algorithms for speed and resource usage, ensuring the system meets stringent performance requirements.
  • Contribute to the architecture of distributed systems that handle large datasets from sensors and feedback loops.
  • Work with machine learning models that require real-time inference for process control.
  • Mentor junior engineers and contribute to code reviews.

Qualifications:

  • 8+ years of experience in software engineering, with a strong focus on systems programming and real-time systems.
  • Proficiency in C++ and experience with embedded systems development.
  • Deep understanding of distributed systems, concurrency, and low-latency programming.
  • Experience with hardware-software interfaces, particularly with FPGAs and GPUs.
  • Familiarity with machine learning and AI systems, especially for real-time applications.
  • A track record of building scalable and reliable software in a team environment.

Why Join Freeform?

  • Work on cutting-edge technology that is transforming manufacturing.
  • Collaborate with a small, talented team of experts from top companies like SpaceX and Apple.
  • Competitive salary and equity in a pre-IPO company.
  • Generous benefits including 100% employer-paid healthcare, free lunches, and a supportive work environment.
