Lead Engineer, Fullstack

Good Pair Days is a leading wine subscription service that has gained recognition for its innovative use of technology to enhance the customer experience. We are a profitable company with an ARR of tens of millions and a rapidly growing user base of 30,000+ customers. We are currently at a pivotal stage, scaling from 1 to 5+ team members, and we are seeking a Lead Engineer, Fullstack to guide our technical growth.

As the Lead Engineer, you will play a critical role in shaping our technology infrastructure. You will be responsible for the entire stack, from the front-end (React, React Native) to the back-end (Python, Django), and everything in between (GraphQL, Postgres, AWS). You will drive the development of new AI-native features, ensuring they are scalable, reliable, and aligned with our business goals. Additionally, you will mentor the engineering team, fostering a culture of innovation and operational excellence.

We are looking for someone who is not only technically proficient but also commercially astute. You should be able to speak the language of unit economics, retention levers, and gross margin with the same fluency as REST endpoints. You must be resourceful, data-driven, ops-literate, and never stop tinkering with the latest models.

Compensation:
The estimated pay range for this role is AUD $150,000 to $250,000. Additionally, this role is eligible to participate in Good Pair Days' equity plan.

Key Responsibilities:
- Design, develop, and scale the full-stack application, including front-end and back-end components.
- Implement and integrate new AI-native features, leveraging machine learning to enhance customer recommendations.
- Optimize system performance, reducing latency and improving reliability.
- Mentor and guide junior engineers, fostering professional growth and a collaborative team environment.
- Collaborate with product, design, and data teams to define and deliver features that drive business value.
- Ensure the scalability and reliability of our infrastructure, particularly as we grow our user base.

Required Skills and Qualifications:
- Proven experience in full-stack development, with a strong background in JavaScript (React, React Native) and Python (Django).
- Expertise in modern web technologies, including GraphQL and Postgres.
- Proficiency with cloud platforms, particularly AWS.
- Experience with AI/ML technologies, preferably in the context of recommendation systems.
- A track record of optimizing system performance and cost-efficiency.
- Strong commercial acumen, with the ability to understand and contribute to business metrics such as unit economics, retention, and gross margin.

This is a full-time, remote position based in Sydney, Australia (with a possible time difference of up to 1 hour).
