Backend Engineer

About InstantDB:

InstantDB is a YC-backed startup building a modern Firebase alternative. We provide a real-time database for the browser, allowing developers to build live apps quickly. We're looking for a talented Backend Engineer to solve hard database problems and build infrastructure to handle 100k+ connections. This role will involve working on our Clojure-based server, optimizing performance, and ensuring scalability.

Key Responsibilities:
* Design and implement scalable backend systems
* Optimize database performance and query efficiency
* Develop and maintain our server infrastructure using Clojure
* Collaborate with frontend engineers to ensure seamless integration
* Troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues
* Contribute to our open-source projects and community engagement

Required Skills:
* Proficiency in Clojure or other functional programming languages
* Experience with database design and optimization
* Understanding of distributed systems and scalability
* Knowledge of real-time data processing concepts
* Experience with cloud infrastructure (AWS)
* Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail

Ideal Candidate:
* 3+ years of experience as a backend engineer
* Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field
* Passion for building scalable infrastructure and solving complex problems
* Experience with Clojure or functional programming
* Strong understanding of database concepts and API design
* Familiarity with AWS services and cloud infrastructure
* Experience with real-time systems and concurrency
* Excellent communication skills and collaborative mindset
