Company: Layer Health is building an AI layer for healthcare, founded by MIT/Harvard researchers, focusing on synthesizing medical records using LLMs to reduce friction and improve patient care. We've raised a $21M Series A.

Role: Backend Tech Lead (Infrastructure)

Location: Hybrid in Boston (Back Bay) or NYC (Grand Central). No remote option available.

Join our ~20 person team to lead backend development focused on core infrastructure. You will be responsible for designing, building, and maintaining the scalable and reliable backend infrastructure that supports our AI platform and data processing pipelines on GCP. This involves working on core services, deployment automation, monitoring, and ensuring the overall health of our systems.

Responsibilities:
* Lead the design, development, and operation of core backend infrastructure using Python on GCP.
* Own critical infrastructure components, ensuring scalability, reliability, and performance.
* Mentor and guide junior engineers working on infrastructure.
* Collaborate with backend, ML, and data engineers to support their infrastructure needs.
* Implement best practices for CI/CD, monitoring, logging, and alerting.
* Drive infrastructure architecture decisions and technology choices.

Technical Skills:
* Strong proficiency in Python and backend development.
* Deep experience with cloud platforms, preferably GCP (Compute Engine, Kubernetes Engine, Cloud SQL, etc.).
* Expertise in infrastructure-as-code tools (e.g., Terraform).
* Experience building and managing distributed systems.
* Strong understanding of networking, security, and database administration concepts.
* Experience with containerization (Docker, Kubernetes).

Ideal Candidate:
* Minimum 4 years of professional backend or infrastructure engineering experience.
* Proven experience leading infrastructure projects or teams.
* Strong problem-solving skills and ability to handle complex infrastructure challenges.
* Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
* Passion for building robust and scalable systems in the healthcare AI space.
