Margins is building the killer app for books, aiming to be the primary resource for one billion book lovers. Launched on Christmas Eve, they quickly reached 100k users. They value craftsmanship and are creating an innovative experience around books, inspired by the idea that the 'margins' are where interaction and understanding happen.

We are looking for a US-based remote Backend/Data/AI Engineer (also referred to as Catalog Engineer) to build the best catalog of book data in the world. Responsibilities include designing, building, and maintaining scalable backend services, managing and optimizing data pipelines, developing robust data models for book information, and potentially applying AI/ML techniques to enhance book discovery, recommendations, and metadata quality. Experience with backend languages (e.g., Python, Go, Node.js, Ruby), databases (SQL/NoSQL), data processing frameworks (e.g., Spark, Kafka), and cloud platforms (AWS/GCP/Azure) is desired. A strong interest in books and a commitment to data accuracy and completeness are essential. You will play a crucial role in building the data foundation that powers the entire Margins experience.
