Full-Stack Engineer

Company: Mechanize is creating high-fidelity virtual work environments, benchmarks, and datasets to enable AI agents to master real-world jobs—starting with full-stack software engineering. Our mission is to develop the infrastructure that will enable the full automation of the economy by creating simulated environments that capture the full scope of human work.

Role Description: As our second engineer and first dedicated product engineer, you will be pivotal in shaping our technical direction. Your responsibilities include:
- Building the core simulation platform: Create realistic, containerized environments where AI agents perform software engineering and other professional tasks.
- Designing realistic evaluation scenarios: Independently identify meaningful software engineering tasks, determine clear grading criteria, and select appropriate tools/workflows for reliable AI agent task completion.
- Developing a consumer software product: Build a full-stack application (Python backend, React/TypeScript frontend with HTML/CSS) that will serve as a foundation for our simulation platform, where AI agents will build and modify it.
- Establishing engineering standards: Set up automated testing, practical CI/CD pipelines, effective monitoring, and clear processes for high-quality code and rapid issue resolution.
- Influencing technical direction: Directly shape product development, make key architectural decisions, and contribute to growing the engineering team.

Ideal Candidate Profile:
- Experience: 5+ years building full-stack software products, including leading at least one significant project from concept to production.
- Technical Skills: Fluent in TypeScript (React) and Python. Comfortable with Docker and Kubernetes-based deployment environments. Practical experience designing robust CI/CD processes, automated testing strategies, and effective monitoring/observability.
- Collaboration: Enjoy close collaboration with users (internal stakeholders, customers) and thrive in a rapid iteration environment.

Bonus Points:
- Experience with container orchestration platforms (specifically Kubernetes).
- Experience with developer tools or internal platforms.
- Experience with Reinforcement Learning (RL) or Machine Learning (ML) workflows and infrastructure.
