JVM Backend Engineer

**About The Role:** As a JVM Backend Engineer at N26, you will be responsible for designing and developing scalable, high-performance backend systems that power our digital banking platform. You will work on critical components of our infrastructure, ensuring that our services can handle millions of transactions securely and efficiently.

**What You'll Do:**
- Design, develop, and maintain backend services using JVM languages (Java, Scala).
- Collaborate with product and frontend teams to implement new features and improvements.
- Optimize system performance, scalability, and reliability.
- Write clean, testable, and maintainable code following best practices.
- Participate in code reviews and architectural discussions.
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues in production.
- Contribute to the development of our microservices architecture.

**Requirements:**
- 5+ years of experience in backend development, preferably with JVM languages (Java, Scala).
- Strong understanding of distributed systems, REST APIs, and microservices architecture.
- Experience with databases (SQL and NoSQL) and data modeling.
- Familiarity with financial systems or fintech domain is a plus.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure) is a plus.

**Compensation:** 
The estimated pay range for this role is €90,000 - €130,000 per year, depending on experience. This role is eligible for equity participation in N26.
