About The Role: As a JVM Backend Engineer at N26, you will be responsible for designing and developing scalable, high-performance backend systems that power our digital banking platform. You will work on critical components of our infrastructure, ensuring that our services can handle millions of transactions securely and efficiently.

What You’ll Do:

  • Design, develop, and maintain backend services using JVM languages (Java, Scala).
  • Collaborate with product and frontend teams to implement new features and improvements.
  • Optimize system performance, scalability, and reliability.
  • Write clean, testable, and maintainable code following best practices.
  • Participate in code reviews and architectural discussions.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues in production.
  • Contribute to the development of our microservices architecture.

Requirements:

  • 5+ years of experience in backend development, preferably with JVM languages (Java, Scala).
  • Strong understanding of distributed systems, REST APIs, and microservices architecture.
  • Experience with databases (SQL and NoSQL) and data modeling.
  • Familiarity with financial systems or fintech domain is a plus.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure) is a plus.

Compensation: The estimated pay range for this role is €90,000 - €130,000 per year, depending on experience. This role is eligible for equity participation in N26.
