Our mission is to reimagine social media and create digital public spaces that foster connection, facilitate pluralism, and encourage civic engagement. Project: We are developing a publicly-owned, public-interest online space with significant momentum, particularly driven by interest in digital sovereignty. This project involves collaboration with public broadcasters, private media, institutions, universities, and enthusiasts globally. We plan to open the project up to anyone to contribute. Role: We are seeking an experienced Open Source Developer to help us open the project to external contributions and nurture a healthy open source community. You will play a crucial role in making our project accessible and successful as a collaborative effort. Responsibilities: * Manage incoming contributions from external developers (e.g., reviewing pull requests, managing issues). * Create comprehensive training materials, guides, and documentation for contributors. * Perform code refactoring to improve codebase quality, maintainability, and ease of contribution. * Manage and moderate community forums and other communication channels. * Develop and implement processes and tools necessary to foster a welcoming, inclusive, and productive open source environment. * Collaborate closely with the core development team and external stakeholders. * Act as a primary point of contact for the open source community. Ideal Candidate: * Strong experience maintaining Open Source projects is essential. * Demonstrated ability working effectively with outside contributors and building vibrant online communities. * Solid software development background, comfortable with code reviews, refactoring complex systems, and understanding software architecture. * Excellent written and verbal communication skills, particularly in crafting clear documentation and facilitating online discussions. * Passion for public interest technology, digital sovereignty, and building healthier online social infrastructure. * Proficiency with Git, GitHub/GitLab, and common open source development workflows and tools. * Self-directed and capable of managing community initiatives independently.
