New Public

New Public is a nonprofit R&D lab dedicated to reimagining social media and building digital public spaces that foster connection, embrace pluralism, and build community. We are researchers, engineers, designers, and community leaders working together to create healthier, flourishing spaces on the internet. Our mission is to strengthen public conversation and community by partnering with local communities and public service media organizations to develop and prototype digital tools that encourage positive interaction and civic engagement. We believe that the internet should serve the public good and not be dominated by for-profit entities. Our work is inspired by the need for more transparent, equitable, and inclusive digital spaces, especially in the face of rising political polarization and the dominance of a few large tech companies. We are committed to creating platforms that help people with different viewpoints understand each other and relate to each other.
