Normcore.io is an autoscaling game server hosting service and Unity plugin that provides all the necessary components for creating multiplayer games. Our team consists of experienced professionals from Unity and Google, dedicated to developing high-quality SDKs, tools, and our own VR titles.

We are seeking a Senior Software Engineer (Backend) to join our growing team. In this role, you will be responsible for designing and implementing backend systems that support our game server infrastructure and Unity plugin. You will work on scalable, high-performance APIs and services that enable multiplayer game development for thousands of concurrent players.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in backend development with TypeScript, Node.js, and Postgres (TimescaleDB). You will play a key role in building and maintaining the infrastructure that powers our platform, ensuring reliability and low latency for our users.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, build, and maintain backend services for our game server hosting platform.
  • Develop and optimize APIs for multiplayer game features.
  • Work with database technologies including Postgres and TimescaleDB to handle time-series data and game state.
  • Collaborate with Unity engineers to ensure seamless integration of our backend services with the Unity plugin.
  • Implement and maintain monitoring and logging for backend systems.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve production issues, ensuring high availability and performance.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Proven experience in backend software engineering, with a focus on scalability and performance.
  • Proficiency in TypeScript, Node.js, and modern JavaScript.
  • Experience with PostgreSQL and time-series databases like TimescaleDB.
  • Understanding of distributed systems, RESTful APIs, and microservices architecture.
  • Familiarity with game server technologies and networking concepts.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
