Pliant is looking for an Engineering Manager to lead one of our backend teams, working remotely within the EU.

**The Role:**
As an Engineering Manager, you will lead, mentor, and grow a team of talented backend engineers within our empowered product team structure. You'll foster a high-performance culture based on collaboration, ownership, and execution, thriving in our "getting shit done", no-bullshit environment. You will work closely with competent Product Managers and other stakeholders to deliver high-quality software solutions.

**Responsibilities:**
*   Lead and manage a team of backend engineers, including hiring, performance management, and career development.
*   Foster a positive, collaborative, and productive team environment.
*   Guide team members in technical decision-making and ensure adherence to engineering best practices.
*   Facilitate agile processes and ensure timely delivery of team commitments.
*   Collaborate with Product Managers to define roadmaps and priorities.
*   Remove impediments and shield the team from external distractions.
*   Contribute to engineering-wide initiatives and improvements.
*   Ensure the team effectively utilizes our tech stack: Java/Kotlin, Spring Boot 3, Postgres, Kafka, AWS, Terraform.

**Ideal Candidate:**
*   Proven experience managing and leading software engineering teams.
*   Strong technical background, ideally with experience in backend development using technologies similar to Pliant's stack (Java/Kotlin, Spring Boot, distributed systems).
*   Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
*   Experience with agile methodologies.
*   Ability to motivate and develop engineers.
*   Alignment with Pliant's culture: proactive, results-oriented, transparent.
*   Based within the EU.
