Polaron is an Imperial College London spinout using generative AI to bridge the gap between process (how materials are made) and performance (how materials behave), accelerating the design of advanced materials for applications like batteries and wind turbines. We recently won the UK Government’s £1 million Manchester Prize for AI innovation.

We are building a dynamic, collaborative team focused on innovation and excellence, based in our Shoreditch, London office (with hybrid options available).

As a Senior Machine Learning Engineer, you will join our team to work on cutting-edge projects. Responsibilities include:
- Optimising efficiency and robustness of our existing algorithms for material characterisation, exploration and optimisation.
- Adapting cutting-edge machine learning methods (especially generative AI using microstructural image data) for material science applications.
- Working closely with materials scientists and software engineers to integrate ML models into our platform.

We seek creative problem-solvers passionate about AI, materials science, and creating a sustainable future. The ideal candidate will have strong experience in Python and PyTorch, applying ML to real-world problems, and a deep understanding of ML algorithms. Experience with generative models, computer vision, or scientific domains is a plus.
