Polaron is an Imperial College London spinout company using generative AI to revolutionize materials science. Our technology bridges the gap between process (how materials are made) and performance (how materials behave), enabling materials designers to leverage state-of-the-art AI techniques in their daily work. We are a small, well-funded team that recently won the UK Government's inaugural Manchester Prize for AI innovation and public good. As a Forward Deployed Engineer at Polaron, you will be on-site in London to help customers deploy and optimize our platform for materials design. You will work closely with customers to understand their needs, implement solutions, and ensure successful adoption of our technology. This role combines technical expertise with customer-facing responsibilities, making you a key part of our mission to accelerate materials innovation. Key responsibilities include: - Deploying and configuring our platform on customer infrastructure - Troubleshooting and resolving technical issues in production environments - Collaborating with development teams to improve deployment processes - Training and supporting customers on using our platform effectively - Identifying opportunities for optimization and automation - Documenting implementations and best practices - Providing technical guidance to customers and internal teams To excel in this role, you should have: - 5+ years of software engineering experience with a focus on deployment and infrastructure - Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP) - Strong understanding of containerization (Docker) and orchestration (Kubernetes) - Proficiency in scripting languages (Bash, Python) - Excellent communication and interpersonal skills - Ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders - Experience with CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure-as-code - Problem-solving mindset with a customer-first approach - Willingness to travel between our London office and customer sites
