Software Engineer - Editor Team
About Rive
Rive is where designers, animators, and developers build interactive experiences. Design, animate, and code in one place. What you build in the editor is what ships in your app, game, or website. No mockups, no prototypes, no handoff. The real thing.
Companies like Spotify, Duolingo, LinkedIn, Google, and Fortune 500 automakers use our open‑source runtimes to build once and ship everywhere — websites, apps, games, and vehicles.
With Rive, designers and developers work with the same tools. No silos. What you see in the editor is what ships in production.
Rive is looking for an experienced Software Engineer to join our Engineering team with a focus on our Editor. We are looking for someone who is passionate about creating an engaging product UI. Ideally you’ve worked on complex, software products with the ability to create custom UI components when needed and an interest in learning and working in Dart/Flutter.
What you’ll do
You’ll join a small, dynamic team working on an exciting product. The editor is the UI for the Rive product and a key piece of the Rive ecosystem. You’ll play an important role in driving new feature development as well as implementing quality of life improvements. This is a complex piece of software and you’ll have the opportunity to expand your reach and work across all of our runtimes.
- Develop new features in the Rive Editor that are sophisticated, maintainable and highly scalable.
- Build custom UI components.
- Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to define and prioritize software features based on user feedback and product roadmap.
- Work closely with designers and design engineers to create visually appealing and intuitive cross platform user interfaces.
- Optimize application performance to ensure smooth and responsive user experiences.
- Coordinate work across multiple runtimes (e.g. iOS, Android, Web, …)
Requirements
What you will bring
- A proven ability and passion to create amazing apps and user experiences.
- A strong affinity for design and UX with a portfolio or examples of relevant applications you’ve built.
- Proficiency in the Dart programming language and Flutter framework (or a willingness to learn and work in these technologies).
- Experience working on sophisticated, cross‑platform UI components.
- Prior experience building complex, concurrent user, scalable, performant software. You are mindful of what you’re building and it’s impact on the overall product from code size, memory, performance…
- Strong understanding of large consumer application development principles, including asynchronous programming, RESTful/GraphQL APIs, and state management.
- Prior experience building custom components. You have experience with UI in big applications and don’t shy away from building components from scratch when needed.
- Excellent communication skills as you will interface with clients.
- Enthusiasm to create a great animation authoring experience.
Location: San Francisco (or someone open to self‑relocation to SF) to work in person with the Editor team in our Potrero Hill office.
