System Systems Go Rust WebAssembly Wasm V8 microVMs Kubernetes Security Performance Infrastructure Linux Cloud Distributed Systems Low-level Sandboxing Back End Engineer Staff Engineer
Company: Riza (https://riza.io) is a seed-stage startup based in San Francisco, founded by experienced second-time founders (ex-Twilio, Stripe, Retool). We are a small team of 3 working out of a converted warehouse. We provide secure, high-performance isolated runtimes (WebAssembly, V8, microVMs) for executing untrusted code, particularly code generated by LLMs. Our Code Interpreter API handles billions of executions monthly for AI-native companies.

Role: We are looking for a Systems Engineer to join our founding team. You will be instrumental in building and scaling the core infrastructure that powers Riza's code execution capabilities. This role involves working on low-level systems, ensuring security, reliability, and performance of our sandboxing technology.

Responsibilities:
- Design, build, and maintain Riza's code execution engine and underlying infrastructure (Go/Rust, Wasm, V8, microVMs).
- Optimize system performance for low-latency (<10ms) code execution.
- Enhance the security and isolation guarantees of our sandboxing environment.
- Develop and manage deployment strategies, potentially involving Kubernetes for cloud and on-premise solutions.
- Collaborate on designing new features and products related to code execution and generation workflows.
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex system-level issues.

Technical Skills Required:
- Strong experience in systems programming, preferably with Go and/or Rust.
- Deep understanding of operating systems concepts, containerization, and virtualization (e.g., microVMs like Firecracker).
- Familiarity with WebAssembly (Wasm) and JavaScript engines like V8 is a significant plus.
- Experience with cloud infrastructure (AWS/GCP/Azure) and container orchestration (Kubernetes).
- Knowledge of network protocols and security best practices.
- Experience building and operating distributed systems at scale.

Ideal Candidate:
- Enjoys working in a fast-paced, early-stage startup environment.
- Comfortable with ambiguity and taking initiative.
- Passionate about building robust, secure, and high-performance systems.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Eager to learn and work with cutting-edge technologies in AI and system infrastructure.
- Experience with LLMs (Anthropic/OpenAI) is a plus.
