Software Engineer

About The Role: We are seeking a junior-to-mid-level software engineer to join our engineering team. This is a unique opportunity to have a major impact on the company’s success and the team culture. As a Software Engineer at Scholarly, you will work closely with the engineering team to help onboard new customers and build functionality required for their success. You will be involved in designing and implementing features that address the specific needs of higher education institutions, ensuring our platform remains both innovative and practical.
Responsibilities:
- Design, develop, and maintain scalable web applications using Ruby on Rails and JavaScript
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define, build, and iterate on product features
- Write clean, efficient, and well-documented code following best practices
- Participate in code reviews, debugging, and troubleshooting
- Work closely with product managers and designers to translate requirements into technical solutions
- Contribute to improving our development processes and infrastructure
- Engage with customers to understand their needs and provide technical support
Requirements:
- 5+ years of professional software engineering experience
- Proficiency in Ruby and Rails development
- Solid understanding of relational databases (MySQL/Postgres) and SQL
- Experience with JavaScript and modern front-end technologies
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
- Excellent communication and collaboration abilities
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced startup environment
- US citizenship or permanent residency (visa sponsorship not available)
Nice-to-Haves:
- Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure)
- Familiarity with testing frameworks and CI/CD pipelines
- Knowledge of higher education systems and processes
- Experience with data visualization tools
- Understanding of RESTful API design
Compensation and Benefits:
- Competitive salary ranging from $130,000 to $160,000 based on experience
