Slice Cheese Inc. is a bootstrapped and profitable small team working to make strong cybersecurity the norm in Japanese industry by building a platform that simplifies and automates security verification (such as NIST CSF and CIS Controls). We aim to help our customers find (and fix) vulnerabilities before their adversaries do. We're looking to hire our third engineer. We work 4-days-remote-1-day-in-office, and primarily work in English, but also sometimes speak Japanese.

Technology-wise, we prefer simple libraries over large frameworks. Our app is built on React, TypeScript, PostgreSQL and GCP. Our frontend is bundled with Vite and our scripts are written with bash – so far. We’re at a stage where we’re open to change. We care greatly about the performance, maintainability, and testability of our code. We take pride in attention to detail, particularly in regard to security. We move fast, but understand there are some things we can’t afford to break.

Role Description:
We’re looking for an experienced full-time engineer to join our team. You will help design, implement and launch major user-facing features. You'll enjoy working in a fast-paced environment with a small and talented team, be comfortable wearing multiple hats, and understand the trade-offs between doing things quickly and doing them well.

Example projects include:
- Conceiving, designing, building, and launching new user-facing features
- Using GCP, AWS and Azure APIs to automate compliance checks
- Designing, coding and documenting our design system
- Improving our CI/CD workflows and automatic testing
- Red teaming our own product and systems

Required Skills & Experience:
- Senior level experience (~5 years) building TypeScript based applications on either the backend or frontend.
- At least a year of experience working with both the backend and frontend, ideally with React and PostgreSQL.
- Experience working with git, participating in code reviews, and providing overall code quality suggestions to help maintain the quality of the codebase.
- Curiosity about security.
- A passion for building quality software that leaves the end user feeling better for having used it.
- Permission to work in Japan (which we can help you with).

Ideal Candidate (Bonus Points):
- An interest in Security.
- Experience building automation tools or web crawlers.
- An eye for design and experience with Figma.
- Been an early employee in a growing startup.
- Depth of knowledge around GCP, AWS or Azure.
- Contributed open source code using TypeScript, React or PostgreSQL.
- Built B2B SaaS products.
- Fluency in both English and Japanese.

Location & Work Style:
Hybrid role requiring 1 day per week in our office in Tokyo, Japan. The remaining 4 days are remote.
