Founding Engineer

Company: Stack Auth is building an open-source authentication platform (think of open-source Auth0/Clerk), designed to help startups and indie hackers create new web projects quickly. As a YC graduate, we're experiencing enormous growth and are looking for talented engineers to join our mission. Our open-source project can be found at github.com/stack-auth/stack-auth.

Role: We are seeking smart, technical Founding Engineers who are passionate about engineering. This is a unique opportunity to join an early-stage team, significantly impact the product's direction, and shape the company culture.

Responsibilities:
- Design, develop, and deploy core features of the Stack Auth platform.
- Contribute actively to the open-source codebase and community.
- Collaborate with the founding team on technical strategy and architecture.
- Help establish engineering best practices and processes.

Ideal Candidate:
- Finds devtools genuinely fun and enjoys deep thinking about programming languages, databases, or web frameworks.
- Views authentication as a challenge and believes they can contribute to building a better solution.
- Has a history of working on side projects, driven by personal interest and learning.
- Values initiative, demonstrable skills (showcased through projects), and open, honest feedback.
- Excited about the prospect of improving developer tools and workflows.

Requirements:
- Must be willing to work full-time and on-site in San Francisco.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States. We cannot offer visa sponsorship at this time.

Compensation:
- Salary Range: $100,000 - $170,000
- Equity Range: 0.5% - 1.5%
