Database Engineer

Tonbo IO is hiring a Database Engineer to join our core engineering team. We are a forward-thinking startup focused on edge-first data infrastructure, building innovative solutions for real-time analytics on Postgres. This role involves designing and developing our flagship open-source project, Tonbo, an embedded database using Apache Arrow technology, along with related components.

Key Responsibilities:

• Design and implement Tonbo, our open-source embedded key-value database
• Develop serverless, real-time analytics capabilities on top of Tonbo and object storage systems
• Optimize database performance and scalability for production workloads
• Collaborate with the engineering team to integrate database features into our product stack
• Profile and tune code for optimal performance using metrics and flamegraphs
• Contribute to our open-source projects and engage with the developer community

Required Skills:

• Proficient in Rust or C++ with experience writing high-performance code
• Strong understanding of system performance principles
• Ability to quickly estimate the performance implications of code decisions
• Expertise leveraging type systems for robust program architectures
• Experience profiling and optimizing code using various tools

Nice-to-Have:

• Familiarity with open-source database internals (e.g., RocksDB)
• Experience building or contributing to data-intensive systems
• Background in distributed systems or real-time processing
