Founding Engineer - Distributed Systems

At Tower, we are building a serverless data platform that helps data scientists and data engineers build leaner data stacks and own their data. We are powered by Apache Iceberg and a whole collection of open source tools that we try to contribute upstream to as much as we can! As a Founding Engineer - Distributed Systems, you will work directly with the founders to define the product, the brand, and the overall company. Your primary focus will be on designing and building the distributed systems that power our platform. This role involves deep technical leadership, system architecture, and mentoring other engineers as we build a world-class data platform.

Key responsibilities include:

• Leading the design and development of distributed systems that handle massive data workloads with high reliability and low latency
• Collaborating with founders to shape the product vision and technical direction
• Building scalable infrastructure components that enable our serverless platform
• Contributing to open-source projects and potentially creating new ones
• Mentoring junior engineers and fostering a culture of technical excellence
• Working closely with data scientists and data engineers to understand their needs and build solutions that empower them

Ideal candidates should have:

• 7+ years of experience in distributed systems engineering
• Proven ability to design and implement highly available, scalable systems
• Deep expertise in Python, concurrency, and distributed computing
• Experience with open-source projects and a passion for contributing back to the community
• Strong leadership skills with a track record of mentoring others
• A collaborative mindset with excellent communication skills
