Go Rust TypeScript Next.js Python Distributed Systems Serverless Vector Database AI Engineer Back End Engineer

Chroma is seeking a Member of Technical Staff to join their engineering team. As a key contributor, you’ll work on building scalable, distributed systems that power Chroma’s vector database infrastructure. This role involves designing and implementing core components of their serverless architecture, optimizing performance across various environments, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver innovative solutions. You’ll have the opportunity to work with Rust on the data plane, Go on the control plane, and Python/Typescript in product engineering, contributing directly to Chroma’s mission of accelerating AI applications.

Responsibilities include:

  • Designing and developing high-performance, distributed systems for Chroma’s vector database
  • Optimizing network performance and scalability for global deployment
  • Collaborating with product and security teams to ensure robust infrastructure
  • Writing concurrent and distributed code in languages like Go, Rust, and TypeScript
  • Conducting code reviews and mentoring junior engineers
  • Troubleshooting and resolving complex technical issues in production environments

Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of experience in software engineering, particularly with distributed systems
  • Proficiency in Go, Rust, TypeScript, or similar languages
  • Strong understanding of network protocols, concurrency, and distributed computing
  • Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure) and serverless architectures
  • Excellent problem-solving skills with a track record of building reliable systems
  • Passion for open-source development and AI infrastructure
